The International SOS Foundation recently reported that 29% of remote rotational workers met the benchmark for clinical depression, and 40% have reported suicidal thoughts. These harrowing statistics have sent shockwaves through the offshore industry, and it’s time to take action.
In an eye-opening webinar, manUP speakUP’s Founder, Mike Scotland shares his experience of facing a mental health battle while working offshore and the steps he takes every day to transform struggles into more manageable challenges.
Taking an in-depth look at mental health issues and the toll these can take on workers both on and offshore, Mike will discuss:
- Various practical activity tools that keep his mind focused and positively occupied while working away from home
- The short- and long-term effects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in relation to your mental health
- How working as a team on an extracurricular activity like RigRun can positively affect your mental health
- How to keep competition friendly and not let it negatively impact your mental health
RigRun may be a competition, but it’s also about bringing remote workers together to improve their physical and mental health as a team. So, if you need support or want to learn how to support your colleagues, we invite you to take a look ‘Under the Hard Hat’ to the person beneath.
About the Speaker:
In 2019, Mike Scotland founded manUP speakUP – a global movement to raise awareness towards Mental Health in the Oil and Gas industry and give those who may be struggling a platform to talk openly about their mental health. Mike has also been providing oil and gas companies around the world with bespoke speeches of his personal mental health experience and what it’s like to be an offshore worker who battles daily challenges and how to combat them. Mike also runs the award winning Community cleanUP, an environmental litter picking group which has brought like minded individuals together from over 50 countries across the globe as they join forces to tackle the fight against litter through community clean up events with local neighbourhoods, schools, companies and organisations removing thousands of Kilograms of waste and restoring multiple areas along the way.
